What the Ship's Excursions Give You
Safety, security, and a guarantee. The ship's excursion desk vets the operators, and if a ship-booked tour runs late the ship holds for it. For a first-time cruiser, or for anyone who wants zero decisions on a port day, that guarantee is worth the premium.
The catch is inventory. The ship's menu is limited, and once a tour sells out there is nothing a travel agent or the cruise line can do about it. Popular tours on popular sailings sell out months ahead: another reason to book the cruise early and plan the ports right after.
What a Private Day Gives You
Flexibility. A private driver and shuttle for your group means the restaurant someone saw on Instagram, a stop for photos on the coast road, an hour of shopping, then the beach: in whatever order the group wants. None of that is on the ship's menu. It is usually cheaper per person than a ship tour for a group of eight or more, and the group travels together.
The responsibility shifts to you: be back at the pier with margin, because the ship will not wait for an independent tour. We plan private days with that margin built in, and we only work with operators we've vetted, ten years in Hilton's international department and a lot of our own port days go into that list.
How We Decide With You
Our priority is the safety and comfort of everyone in the group first. So we start with a conversation: who's cruised before, who's adventurous, who wants a beach and a chair, which ports, and whether the group wants every port together or some days apart. From there the answer is usually obvious, sometimes the ship's tour in one port and a private day in the next.
