The Bahamas
Best Months
December–April
Trip Length
5–8 days
Best For
Couples looking for a premium Caribbean beach experience, Families who want something beyond a resort corridor
Nassau is the entry point. Exuma, Eleuthera, and Harbour Island are the destination. The Bahamas most people never reach is the one worth going to.
Why Go
- —
Exuma's Swimming Pigs — yes, they really are wild pigs who swim out to greet boats — have become iconic, but the island itself is extraordinary beyond the Instagram moment.
- —
Harbour Island's Pink Sand Beach is one of the most genuinely beautiful beaches on earth — the pink color comes from crushed coral and red foraminifera shells, and it's real.
- —
The Bahamas have some of the clearest, most turquoise water in the world. The Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park has protected that water for decades.
- —
Nassau works as a base for the Family Islands — fly or boat in and out. The city itself is more interesting than the cruise port suggests.
Sample 5–8 days Itinerary
Arrival — Nassau
Fly into Nassau. Explore the colonial downtown, the Straw Market, the Queen's Staircase. Governor's House. Dinner at Graycliff or Dune.
Nassau Day — Blue Lagoon or Atlantis
Blue Lagoon Island (private island day trip — snorkeling, dolphin encounters, beach). Or if traveling with children: Atlantis resort day pass for the water park. Evening: Nassau cocktail bar scene.

Small plane from Nassau to George Town (45 min). Boat charter for the day — Swimming Pigs at Big Major's Spot, Thunderball Grotto (the James Bond cave — free dive or snorkel inside), Staniel Cay Yacht Club for lunch. Iguana colony at Allen's Cay. The water is genuinely extraordinary.
Eleuthera & Harbour Island
Small plane to Eleuthera (or from Exuma, 30 min). Water taxi to Harbour Island. Pink Sand Beach. The Dunmore neighborhood — pastel clapboard houses from the colonial era. Sip Sip for lunch. Rock House for cocktails.
Return & Departure
Fly or water taxi back to Nassau for your connection home.
When to Go

$4,000–$7,000/person

Small plane transfers between islands ($150–350/person each way) are non-negotiable for reaching the Out Islands. Private charter planes for groups work out to similar per-person cost and are significantly more convenient. Budget for boat charters in Exuma — they're the only way to do it properly.
